A lawyer enjoys complete liberty, autonomy and independence in the exercise of his profession in order to safeguard the rights and interests of the individual, ensuring the knowledge of the laws and contributing to the implementation of a legal system designed to achieve the ends of justice.
 
In the exercise of his profession a lawyer shall take care that the laws conform to the principles of the Constitution and the Convention for the protection of human rights and the laws and regulations of the European Community, shall guarantee the right of liberty and safety as well as the inviolability of the right to representation, and ensure that trials and hearings conform to proper procedures.
